Naloxone Saves Lives

How to Use Naloxone

A 70-second walkthrough of giving naloxone (Narcan) nasal spray to someone having an opioid overdose. Anyone can do this.

The Short Version

Three Steps

Naloxone rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. It's easy to use, it can't be misused, and it won't hurt someone who isn't overdosing.

  1. 1
Recognize the signs: unresponsive, slow or no breathing, blue lips or fingertips.
  2. 2
Give naloxone: spray into one nostril, or follow the injectable instructions.
  3. 3
Call 911 and stay. Give another dose after 2–3 minutes if there's no response, switching nostrils.
